While editing a document, a few minutes after Office has been started, it suddenly shows the message: 'There is insufficient memory. Save the document now.' This is usually caused by a full RAM or an enabled feature within Word.

[Solution 1] Restart the Mac

This error indicates that the Mac has been running for too long without a restart. The RAM might be full and OS X is unable to free of up any space for new commands from within applications.

  1. Click the Apple logo located at the top left corner of the screen.
  2. Click Restart... and untick the option Reopen windows when logging back in.
  3. Click Restart to restart the Mac.

[Solution 2] Turn off smart cut / copy / paste

  1. Open the Word app and click Word (usually located at the top left corner).
  2. Open Preferences and click Edit.
  3. Untick the Use Smart Cut/Copy/Paste option.
  4. Restart the Word app.
