Windows Store Error 0x80240438

When attempting to download and install apps from the Windows Store, error 0x80240438 occurs.

[Solution 1] Change the disableWindowsUpdateAccess value


  1. Open Run and execute Regedit
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Policies \WindowsUpdate.
  3. Change the DisableWindowsUpdateAccess REG_DWORD value from 1 to 0.
  4. Restart the computer and attempt to download apps from the Windows Store.

[Solution 2] Clear the Windows Store cache


  1. Close the Windows Store.
  2. Open Run and execute %localappdata%
  3. Open \Packages \Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe \Local cache.
  4. Delete all folders and files in this parent folder.
  5. Restart the Windows Store and attempt to download apps again.
