Word Cannot Start The Converter SSPDFCG_x64

When attempting to open Word, the following error occurs: 'Word cannot start the converter SSPDFCG_x64.'

[Solution 1] Rename the SSPDFCG_x64 file


  1. Close all Office applications.
  2. Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv.
  3. Rename SSPDFCG_X64.cnv to SSPDFCG_X64.old
  4. Relaunch Word and the error message will be gone.

[Solution 2] Delete the text converters key


  1. Close all Office applications.
  2. Open Run and execute Regedit
  3. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Shared Tools \Text Converters.
  4. Right-click on Text Converters and delete it.
  5. Restart the computer.
